NATIONAL: TOMARAPI´s HOUSING MADE REALITY TO INCLINATION OF THE INITIATIVE OF THE RURAL COMPANY “WAYNA SAJAMA.”
Tomarapi has an ecological lodge
To 4.200 meters high
• The comunnity people associated and offer a tourist service in the National Park Sajama.
Several town people -26 in total - decided to associate and build the ecological lodge “Tomarapi” in the National Park Sajama to offer a tourist service that includes walks of high mountain and walks to different places of the protected area.
The residents organized the company “Huayna Sajama”, they also placed the fundamental stone of a new tourist circuit that will allow the visitors to take advantage of three wells of thermal waters of volcanic origin.
The lodge Tomarapi, of the ecoregión was built with the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and of the National Service of Protected Areas (Sernap).
The National Park Sajama is located to the Northwest of the department of Oruro very near the frontier with Chile. It possesses more than 100 thousand hectares and it has several flora species and fauna of those that it stands out the vicuña, the Andean cat, the suri or Andean ostrich, the puma, the quirquincho, the condor, the pariguana and other small birds.
Also, in the region the millennial forests of queñuas are still conserved or “Polylepis tarapacana” and the yaretas and thola, besides big bofedales extensions that are areas with a lot of water and vegetation.
However, the surprising stateliness of the snowy Sajama, the highest in the country with 6.542 meters from the level of the sea (msnm), it is the main attractiveness of the region.
The snowy one also called the “Tata Sajama”, keeps archaeological remains of the Culture Aymara Karangas that probably, during the prehispanic time, the inhabitants were expert breeders and clippers of the Andean camélidos.
“We are being integrated with the projects of sustainable development that can be carried out inside the national park”, the director of the protected area, Franz Guzmán sustained and revealed that years ago the military Bolivians military practiced “I throw to the target” with the vicuñas of the region.
The season of shears of the vicuña it has begun in the Sajama, last week, and the peasants of the place participated for third serial year.
Guzmán explained that in this administration the process of commercialization of the so appreciated vicuña fiber will begin in a same way in international markets.
SALE OF THE FIBER
On the other hand, the Regional coordinator of the Project Handling of Protected Areas and Areas of Subduing (MAPZA), Daniel Maydana advanced that in two weeks the international public invitation will rush for the commercialization of the fiber of the vicuña.
“We have consolidated the Committee of Commercialization between the Sernap and MAPZA and we already have the fiber in the storing power station located in Apolobamba”, Maydana detailed when explaining that after having obtained the technical preparation, it is necessary now “to operate” together with the town people.
The vicuñas, the flames and German nickels that inhabit the Sajama take an appropriate place for their natural habitat, since the range of height oscillates between the 4.200 and 6.542 msnm and cultivations that alter its habitat don't exist.
The peasants with the support of the GTZ of Germany seek to rescue the population of the vicuñas that diminished their quantity because of the antipersonal mines located in the frontier with Chile.

On the other hand, the town people of Tomarapi, population that was uninhabited and that now it has an ecological lodge includes a special lodging service, they wait for the visit of more tourists to the region.
