Fairly difficult trek

TREK CORDILLERA REAL (12 DAYS )  (from Kotia to Coroico)

“A complete traverse near glaciers, blue lakes, Andean hamlets and wildlife”Trekking

Day 1: From La Paz we drive 3 hours to reach Lake Kotia to camp on the shore at 4450 m high.

Day 2-3: 6 hour daily walks to higher places above 4500 m high around Negruni and Catanani glaciers to reach down the campsite beside the Jurikhota lake (4670 m high).

Day 4. Contour around the Jurikhota lake and ascend to a frozen lake below Condoriri. Scramble to the valley above and reach the Apacheta pass (5150 metres) after 3-4 hours. Spectacular views of the Condoriri peaks and the Cordillera Real, Altiplano and Lake Titicaca. Camp beside the Lake Chiarkhota at 4650 m high. 6-7 hours trekking.

CondorDay 5: We climb  Aguja Negra Pass (5035 m high). After descending (1 hour) we climb up to the next pass, Zongo Sistana (4930 metres). Excellent views of peaks such as Huayna Potosi. Finally we walk down into the green Liviņosa valley and trek out easily to Botijlaca  village which is on the road. A car picks us up to near the base of Mt. Huayna Potosi for camping. We are surrounded by huge glaciers that cover the uncountable high peaks nearby.

Day 6: Rest  day

Day 7: 2 hours up to Telata Pass (4.950 m high) through a steep narrow path. On the other side we descend (3 h.) to the Sanja valley. Camp at 4.000 m high near the village of Sanja.

Day 8: An hour smooth climb to Wakakunka Pass (4.300 m high). 2 hour descent to the village of Chukura to find the pre-Inka trail of the Aymaras. This paved path was extensively used in the boom epoch of Tiwanaku civilization to transport produce and material on llama back from the Amazon to the Andes. 2 hours downhill to reach Challapampa grassy flat to camp at 2.800 m high.

Day 9: Long day by hillside in the rain forest. 7 hours to the campsite at San Francisco (2.200 mts. high). The rain forest

Day 10: 5 hours on a narrow path on hillsides with ups and downs to reach the village of Chairo (1.500 m high) with plenty of plantations (banana, coffee, orange and so on). Transfer (one hour) in car to the hamlet of Charobamba where we walk 20 minutes to reach the ecolodge "El Jiri" at 1.500 m high (available bungalows with plenty of comforts).

Day 11: We start our 5 hour exploration walk to get to know the area. In Charobamba we identify fruit plants. In the afternoon we participate in a local party assisting in the preparation of exotic drinks and a country barbecue. We also learn how to dance La Saya, typical dance of the black people in Bolivia.   

Day 12: Lazy wake up to prepare our own breakfast baking some fresh bread, some hot chocolate and so on. We walk down 1 hour to the river Huarinilla to get our Zodiac boats and raft for an hour and a half to the village of Santa Barbara where our car waits for us to return to La Paz, stopping in the famous town of Coroico (1720 m high) to have lunch. 3 hour drive to La Paz.
