SCIENTIFIC   ECOTOUR IN CHACALA RAIN FOREST (3 DAYS)

“It is a tour in the countryside to systematically observe the wild environment which we are part of, under the guidance of an expert naturalist” Black Beetle Satan

Black Beetle Satan (Dynastes satanas Moser), is endemic to Bolivia living from 1500 to 2000 m high in the rain forests of Yungas, Chapare and high Madidi. You can see it mainly in rainy season from December to April.

Yungas is located below high snow covered mountains and above the Amazonian flat.  Yungas is a hilly area covered by forest and is the true rain forest in Bolivia with more than 2000 mm of rain fall per year. Much of its vegetation are survivors of Palaeozoic and cenozoic times.

Why Chacala?; Because it has concentrated a great variety of species of flora, reptiles, little mammals, birds, insects and spiders.

You can not see these marvels if you do not approach the right places at the right time on the right soil and right plants but on the other hand, we cannot move anything, leave anything on it or take    anything home except shooting with a good camera (photo safari).

The sub alpine humid forests near the high snowy peaks are quite dry with just some important plants, but further down the warm Yungas starts with a Humid Mountainous forest from 2.400 to 1200 m high. Its outstanding vegetation is basically formed by  diverse kinds of ferns like Nephelea and Cyathea; palms like Dictyocaryum lamarckianum and Bactris gasipaesRainbow-Colored butterfly

There are 130 species of birds living in the warm Yungas and they live regularly  with 285 species coming down often from the higher Cloudy forest

The Rainbow-Colored butterfly (Morpho godarti Guérrin), endemic to Bolivia, lives in the rain forest of Yungas and the Amazonian flats. It exists only in April. You can see it mostly concentrated near waterfalls.

Some of the outstanding birds you find here are:

Squirrel cuckoo
White-throated screech-owl
Andean potoo
Black-hooded sunbeam humming bird
Golden-headed quetzal
Emerald toucanet
